Belitong traditional house is not easy to find in Belitung Regency. Stage-shaped house with five parts of this house is rarely used by people for shelter. But the local government built a unit of Belitong traditional houses in the regent's official residence.

The location of the traditional house used to belong to the Chinese citizens who founded the warung. Then the local government buys and makes it a regional asset. In 2006 the local government began building the traditional house and it was only completed three years later.

There are five parts of the house with their respective functions in the traditional house. With the form extending to the back, this stilt house is getting to the back of the lower the allocation and function. Starting from the terrace at the front to the room for guards or helpers in the house.

The main building of this traditional house is made of nyatoh wood, the floor uses ironwood and the roof uses medang and exciting wood. The wood is wood from the area around Belitung.

The traditional nuance of Belitong is felt when visitors enter the stairs to climb the traditional house. The rattling sound of rocking flowers rubbing against each other due to the wind blows to welcome anyone who enters the traditional house.

The rocking flower is a complementary ornament in a traditional house to welcome guests who come. In the past, the native people of Belitung made this ornament using lais leaves. But now the ornament is made of zinc with the same shape as the original.

The house with five parts and is quite large is a traditional house for officials and nobles. It is different from traditional houses for ordinary people who only have four parts of a house and are smaller in size.

Another ornament that distinguishes between traditional houses for aristocrats and ordinary people is the number of steps. The traditional house of the aristocratic steps must be more than three. As for ordinary people, there are only a maximum of three.

This shows the position or degree of someone in society. We can see the position of someone in the community just by looking at the traditional house building they owned in ancient times.

Visitors can also see house decorations like lace to beautify the triangular shaped roof. The ornament was adopted from a traditional Kalimantan house, meaning that the house owner had a relative from a tribe in Kalimantan.

According to customs, only male guests can be accepted on the terrace. While female guests go straight into the middle of the house or even directly into the kitchen. While male guests are not allowed into the house, but only on the terrace.

While the main room is the center of the owner's family home for activities. Visitors can see the characteristics of stilt houses that do not have room dividers. This room is also a place to sleep with the whole family. (*)
