Belitung as a new tourist destination in Indonesia does not only rely on the potential of its natural beauty. Some places in Belitung have a history of local people's struggles during the Dutch colonialism. One of them is in Aik Seruk Village, Sijuk District.

War between local fighters and the invaders broke out during the colonial era decades ago, precisely on November 25. At the point of the war, a hero monument was built to commemorate the services of the warriors to drive out the invaders.

Around the Aik Seruk Village Heroes Monument there is also a wall that is stretched and depicted reliefs of the struggle of the heroes. The construction of the monument has been around for a long time, but recently the local village government and the Department of Tourism and Creative Economy (Disparekraf) of Belitung Regency have been restored.

Every November 25, the location is also a warning center for the struggle against the invaders. Among them by holding a red and white flag raising ceremony to commemorate the struggle of the heroes against the invaders who ruled the Laskar Pelangi Country.

"Routine activities are carried out every November 25, from a ceremony attended by village officials and school students as well as community leaders also held events such as casual walks," said Secretary of the Village of Aik Seruk, Suminem.

At present a canteen is being built right next to the hero monument field. It aims to support this hero monument area as a location for tourist visits. So that visitors can also feel comfortable in the area.

The visitors can find out the struggle of the Belitung community against the invaders through reliefs drawn on the walls around the monument. In addition, through the explanation of the local village government and the guides who accompany tourists.

This hero monument is quite easy to reach by tourists, which is right on the edge of Sijuk Street, Aik Seruk Village. From the center of Tanjungpandan City it is around 17 KM. On the side of the monument there is also a small stream of water that is quite clear water. (*)
