Before becoming a tourist attraction, Batu Mentas was a protected forest area at the foot of Mount Sharp. Because it has a lot of charm and potential, then in March 2012 the inauguration and lauching of Batu Mentas Nature Tourism and Sanctuary Tarsius by the KPLB (Belitung Environmental Care Group) with the GEF (Global Environment Program).
Mentas stone does have a lot of potential. In fact, because of its many potentials, Batu Mentas is widely referred to as an integrated tourism destination. Some of Batu Mentas potentials are protected forests, rich flora and fauna, beautiful rivers and also support for some outbound activities. There is one interesting fauna that we can find in Batu Mentas, the Tarsius Bancanus Saltator. Rare fauna in this world you can see in the wild or also being bred.
In addition to the protection of Tarsiers, in this Mentas Stone you can also find other endangered fauna such as the Siaw, the Deer, the Squirrel Alaras and the Horn. Meanwhile for the protected flora here are Pelawan, Nibong Palay, Sisilan, Rukam, Simpor Laki and others. Another feature in Batu Mentas is the clear river and surrounded by granite. In this river you can swim with matchless freshness.
Besides swimming, you can also do white water rafting on the Batu Mentas river. Community life in the Batu Mentas area is increasingly making a vacation here more memorable. This is because the waraga here has a lot of local wisdom and also interesting rattan weaving craft expertise.
