Talking about the oldest kingdom on Belitung Island, we will find the name of the Kingdom of Beams. This kingdom is indeed considered as the first kingdom on the island of Belitung because it was founded in the 15th century AD. While the heyday of this kingdom is in the 17th century from the period 1618-1661. Meanwhile the location of the Balok Kingdom itself is believed to be around the river Balok, which now enters the Balok Village area, Dendang District, East Belitung Regency.

The Kingdom of Beam economy rests on an industrial-based economy. This can be seen from the record of its export activities in 1648-1665 which sent 24,000 thousand chisels and machetes to Batavia. The kingdom of Beam later developed in agriculture when it was able to transport its rice harvest to several regions, including Batavia. In addition to the export of chisels, machetes and rice, it was known that the Kingdom of Beam had also exported three tons of resin to the city of Batavia in 1661. Another forest product that could be processed and traded by the Kingdom of Beam was a mat craft which was able to be marketed also to Batavia in 1665.

The iron metal industry during the time of the Kingdom of Beams was indeed developing so rapidly. The development of the ferrous metals industry is driven by the presence of abundant quality iron ore in Belitung. The quality of iron ore from Belitung is indeed very well known and popular in this country because it can produce flexible iron products but is not easily broken. From the development of the iron industry in the time of the Kingdom of Beams, we can also find the ability and expertise of the people in processing iron metal.

The interesting thing about the Kingdom of Beam is the existence of good agricultural products. Though judging by the land in Belitung which rarely has nutrients as in Java, making plants here difficult to grow. But seeing the record of rice exports that had occurred in 1665 to Batavia proved that the Kingdom of Beam had succeeded in developing techniques for processing and increasing food production on critical land.

The location of the Balok Kingdom around the river Balok is not without meaning. Even from this location, the economy of the Kingdom of Beam is growing rapidly. The location of the Balok Kingdom in a bay will indeed protect against the impact of the ferocious west season. The Government of the Kingdom of Beam was started from the founders who were in power from 1616-1619. The founder and the first governing of the Kingdom of Beam were:

1. Datuk Mayan Gresik (Ki Rungo Yudo)

2. K. AGeheh Ja 'Kub (Cakraningrat I)

3. The King of Palembang, supported by Pajang, Mataram and Demak.

The Kingdom Government of Beam was subsequently governed by several kings:

1. K.A Gedeh Ja 'Kub Cakraninggrat I (1618-16610).

2. K.A Mending Cakraningrat II (1661-1675).

3. K.A Mending Cakraningrat II (1675-1696).

4. K.A Gending Cakraningrat III (1696-1700).

5. K.A Bastam Cakraningrat IV (1700-1740).

6. K.A Abudin Cakraningrat V (1740-1755).

7. K.A Usman Cakraningrat VI (1755-1756).

The Kingdom of Beams The Period of Government in Cerucuk was ruled by:

1. K.A Usman Cakraningrat VI (1756-1786)

2. K.A Hatam Cakraningrat VII (1785-1815)

3. K.A Rahad Cakraningrat VIII (1817-1854)

Kingdom of Beams The period of government in Tanjung Pandan was governed by:

1. K.A Mohammad Saleh Cakraningrat IX (1856-1873)

THE TIME OF THE KINGDOM OF BEAMS

The heyday of the Balok Kingdom emerged during the reign of K.A Bastam Cakraningrat IX (1700-1740). During the reign of K.A Bastam Cakraningrat IX, many people liked it because it could bring the kingdom and its people to prosperity. K.A Bastam Cakraningrat IX himself is known as a leader who has supernatural powers. In its heyday, the territory of the Kingdom of Beam included Badau - Buding, Belantu - Tanjung Pandan, Sijuk.

THE RETURN OF THE KINGDOM BEAM

Meanwhile the decline of the Balok Kingdom occurred during the reign of K.A Abudin Cakraningrat V (1740-1755). The decline of the kingdom itself was due to K.A Abudin being arrogant and arrogant so as to make himself disliked by his people. From here then the position of K.A Abudin was withdrawn by the King of Palembang.

GROUP OF COMMUNITIES IN THE KINGDOM OF BEAM

At the time of the Kingdom of Beams there were 3 groups of people on Belitung Island. The three groups of people are Land, Sekak, and Jurun. Darat itself is a native of Belitung.
